CHICAGO!!! Today’s video is about things to do in Chicago on a budget. Food halls! Walking tour! Architectural boat tour!

Amy’s off on her own for a Chicago vacation for 3 nights with friends from high school. We always travel on a budget so frugal is the theme of the trip.

In this video, she covers all the highlights during a long weekend in Chicago. She took in a Broadway show (Tootsie), cruised along the river for the Architectural Boat Tour (a WORTH-IT splurge), laughed for hours with the talented comedians at Second City, toured Michigan Avenue and Millenium and Grant Parks on a free walking tour, checked out THREE food halls and ATE heavenly, affordable food.

And, she stayed at the super-fabulous Gwen Hotel, using a great redemption with Marriott points. It was located in a perfect spot and she walked everywhere.

We can’t wait to go back again, together!

Some of the sites she used for discounts…

Chicago First Lady Architectural Boat Tour – discounted tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays – https://www.hottix.org/shows/

Second City – https://www.hottix.org/shows/

Free Chicago Walking Tours (Paul was terrific!) – http://freechicagowalkingtours.com/

Here are the 3 food halls from the video – all fairly close to one another. Keep in mind, they close fairly early (7-8pm):

Wells Street Market – http://wsmchicago.com/
French Market – https://frenchmarketchicago.com/
Revival Food Hall – https://www.revivalfoodhall.com/

The wonderful dinners were at…
Xoco – http://www.rickbayless.com/restaurants/xoco/
Lou Malnati’s – https://www.loumalnatis.com/

And, last but not least…
The Gwen Hotel – https://www.thegwenchicago.com/

About us…we are Tim and Amy and we retired early (in our 40s) after reducing our expenses by $6,500 a month. Now, our big splurges tend to be travel and health-related versus stuff.

Please check out our other videos! Some are about our traveling adventures, others are about out new(er) life of FIRE (financially independent, retired early) and financial freedom.

I love the french market. It has lots of gluten free options. My favorite thing to do in Chicago is to ride the el around the downtown area.
