Travel Tips | 5 ESSENTIAL Traveling Tip

Whats up you beautiful people on THAT side of the screen!

I’m back with another video of, well, just randomness and love.

So I recently traveled to the oh so dry, yet still beautiful Cape Town to visit one of my dearest friends. The plan was to relax, have fun and try and shoot some epic drone footage of the beaches and the mountain.

Since being back, it got me thinking. Sure there are tons of resources on the interwebs that help you with what to pack when you travel; there’s always just been that 1 or 2 important things I kept on missing.

With that thought in mind, I decided to share some of my own personal travel tips, with you, the people.

Now, I wanna start this list off with the single most important thing, in my opinion, and that is shoes. Yup, these things.

I’ve traveled to places like the USA, Canada, Australia, Scotland, England, Ghana, Gabon and the Congo. Festivals, live shows and so on. Without fail, the single most important thing has always been shoes. Comfortable shoes.

One particular memory is of when I was in New York. My god what an amazing place.

Anyway… thinking I was clever, I packed my brand new Chuck Taylor High Tops. I mean this boy from South Africa wanted to look cool and shit in the big apple.

But alas, the worst decision of my entire trip. About an hour into walking the streets of Manhattan, I hated my life. I hated New York. I hated the people. I wanted to die.

Don’t be me. NEVER in your life, take new shoes on a trip where you’re about to walk your ass off. You will hate life.

The second thing would be to pack the obvious. Clothes. Now, in saying that and as simple as it sounds, try to plan ahead. Check the weather, the season and so on. When going to a festival, for instance, check the history. Did it rain? Do you need Gumboots, etc.

Why gumboots? Well, we recently went to a music festival here in South Africa. Knowing that it usually rains that time of the year, but not using our brains, we didn’t take gumboots.

Yup, something as simple and as ugly as gumboots will with the dust, rain, water, and mud. Going to a festival? ALWAYS take gumboots!

You’ll thank me later for this. Sounds simple, but this is super important.

Always take at least a couple of long sleeve shirts. Lots of underwear (unless you like a stinky bum), a hat, sunglasses, belt and a foldable Down Jacket (they are light and super warm). The rest is pretty standard stuff which I won’t bore you with.

The next one is just as important.

Power banks and converters for all your electronics. We live in a digital age, and I know as well as you do that going without a cell phone for too long sucks. Make sure you have this checked. Same applies for your cameras, drones, laptops or whatever!

The 4th thing would be Travel Health

As soon as you decide to travel internationally, check the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s website for comprehensive travel vaccines, medicines, and travel advisory information.

Next up… Travel Docs

Ensure you have stuff like Cash, Passports, IDs, Health Insurance, Travel Insurance. Contact Info where you’ll be staying or going, etc. Make sure you have travel and health insurance. Especially if you’re planning on going to some 3rd world country. You never know.

Also, don’t skimp on this one…

Make sure you let at least one person know where you are at all times. If anything happens to you, the last thing you need is for your loved ones NOT to know where you are should anything happen.

Personal Hygiene stuff

Hand sanitizer, toiletries, sunscreen, painkillers and for the love of god deodorant.

Nobody likes someone who reeks of sweat! NOBODY!

Lastly would be your Main Luggage

Wherever you’re planning to go, pick luggage that is versatile, lightweight and big enough to hold all your essentials. My recommendation is to get a Get a hard shell. Traveling abroad is tough on your suitcase. Trust me on this.

Those are, in my opinion, the must-have list when it comes to traveling.

Don’t overcomplicate things. Most of the time you’ll be able to get the basics from a place close to where you’ll be going (unless its the Amazon, which in that case… you’re in trouble).

That’s pretty much it. Now go smash your next trip in its face. Have fun, be safe and like Land Rover says…

You have one life. Live it!
